President, PM pay tributes to Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj's residence to pay her their last respect.A visibly upset Modi was seen paying an emotional tribute to Sushma Swaraj. He met her daughters and consoled them, and spend a long time patiently hearing her husband. 

Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu too, visited the house of the late Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who passed away suddenly late on Tuesday after suffering a cardiac arrest.Former Deputy Prime Minister and party veteran L.K. Advani accompanied by his daughter also reached the house where Sushma Swaraj had recently moved to after her last Ministerial duties. Sharing a long association, Pratibha Advani and Sushma Swaraj's daughter were seen getting emotional. 
Among the others who visited her residence to pay last respect were also Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia.Samajwadi Party leaders Ram Gopal Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav too paid their last respect to Sushma Swaraj.Trinamool leader Derek O'Brien was also present.
Will miss Sushmaji's presence immensely: Advani

New Delhi: Calling her one of his closest colleagues, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran L.K. Advani on Wednesday mourned the death of senior party leader Sushma Swaraj.He recalled that when he was the President of the BJP in the eighties, she was a promising young activist who he had inducted into the team.
"And over the years, she became one of the most popular and prominent leaders of our party -- in fact, a role model for women leaders," he said in a statement.He said he is deeply distressed at the "untimely demise of one of my closest colleagues, Sushma Swaraj".
Advani called her a brilliant orator."I was often amazed at her ability to recall incidents, events and present them with utmost clarity and eloquence."He said she was also a fine human being and touched everyone with her warmth and compassionate nature."I do not recall a single year when she missed bringing my favourite chocolate cake to me on my birthday," said Advani.
Expressing condolences, he added the nation has lost a remarkable leader."To me, it is an irrepairable loss and I will miss Sushmaji's presence immensely. May her soul rest in peace," he added.
Andhra Governor, CM shocked over Sushma Swaraj's death
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu said they were shocked by the sudden demise of former Foreign minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.Sushma Swaraj died of a cardiac arrest on Tuesday night in New Delhi. She was 67.
Harichandan expressed deep shock and sadness and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.Jagan Mohan Reddy described Swaraj as a national stalwart and a towering personality who was loved across party lines.
"As an able administrator and an epitome of bravery and kindness, she inspired women of this country," the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief said.The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
Chandrababu Naidu said Sushma Swaraj's contribution to the nation in various leadership roles will never be forgotten. "Her stellar work as former minister of External Affairs is an exemplary model of governance. I pray to God to give strength to her family," tweeted the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief.
Diplomats call Sushma Swaraj a true and great friend
New Delhi: The demise of former External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj is not only being mourned by political leaders in India but also by the diplomats of other countries. Several envoys visited her residence today to pay her their tributes.
Russian envoy Nikolay Kudashev, who visited Swaraj's residence to pay his last respect, said: "Sushma Swaraj was well known in Russia as a steadfast defender and promoter of the international interests of India and its global power reputation. "She was a sincere and true friend of Russia, greatly contributing to the strengthening of our special and privileged strategic partnership. She will always dwell in our hearts and memories. May her soul rest in peace".
Israeli Ambassador Ron Malka called Swaraj a great friend of Israel. "She played a big role in the remarkable progress in Israel-India relationship," he said.
Fadnavis cancels Yatra for the day in Sushma's honour
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cancelled all his 'Maha Janadesh Yatra' programmes for the day as a mark of respect for Sushma Swaraj."Chief Minister Fadnavis cancelled his ongoing 'Maha Janadesh Yatra' programmes for Wednesday," said the Yatra Coordinator Sujit Singh Thakur on Wednesday.
Earlier, Fadnavis had announced that he would be returning to Mumbai for a day to monitor the grim flood situation in Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur in south-west parts of the state.The Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party put up a portrait of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the state party headquarters here, to enable activists and people to pay homage to the departed leader, an official said here on Wednesday.
Sushma Swaraj was popular in Maharashtra political circles and enjoyed a good personal rapport with most of the state BJP leaders, besides party workers and the common masses.A senior BJP leader, Sushma Swaraj, 67, passed away late on Tuesday night following a heart attack in New Delhi.
With Sushma Swaraj's death, I lost my elder sister: Harsimrat
New Delhi: Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday said that with the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the country has lost a great leader and she lost an elder sister."Today, India lost a great leader, the world lost an exemplary human being and I lost an elder sister," she tweeted.
"The void left by the passing of former external affairs minister Sushma Swarajji can never be filled. May 'Waheguru' grant peace and shelter to the dearly departed," she said, after sharing a picture of her and her husband, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal with Sushma Swaraj in happier times. Sukhbir Badal can be seen holding a red traditional Phulkari hand held fan in the picture and Sushma and Harsimrat laughing together.
Punjab, Haryana CMs remember Sushma Swaraj
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana Chief Ministers on Wednesday expressed grief over the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.Shocked to learn of the sudden demise of Swaraj, said Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
"I will always remember her as a dynamic and sensitive leader with the ability to empathise with the common people. Will miss her. May your soul rest in peace!" he tweeted.Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted: "Smt Sushmaji's last tweet makes my heart heavy. Her love for our nation always showed -- we will all miss her immensely."
In her last tweet, the senior BJP leader thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for scrapping Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. "Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime," Swaraj had tweeted.She passed away due to cardiac arrest in New Delhi on Tuesday night.
