India: So, China and Pakistan boast themselves as missile superpowers. But the world cannot take India for granted now. The country’s missile programme is creating ripples in the entire world.

We are not warmongers and the main aim of the Indian missile programme is peace. With the Agni series and cruise missile BrahMos, India can now take care of targets between 30 to 5,000 kms.

Here are 7 Indian missiles which are capable of creating havoc and safeguarding country’s defence interests:

1. Agni series:

Agni is an intercontinental range ballistic missile. It is a nuclear weapons capable surface to surface ballistic missile. The new Agni series will include Agni-1 (700 km), Agni-2 (2,000 km), Agni-3 (3,000 km), Agni-4 (4,000 km). Agni -5 is expected to have the longest striking range of 5,000 km. Agni-1 was first test launched in 1989. Agni-6 is still in a developmental stage. The expected range of this missile is 8,000 to 12,000 km.

2. Prithvi series:

Prithvi missile is India’s first indigenously built surface to surface missile. Prithvi-1 has a range of 150 kms. Prithvi-2 and Prithvi-3 have a range of 250 and 350 kms respectively. The missile was inducted into the Indian Army in 1994.

3. BrahMos:

This missile is named after Indian river Brahmaputra and Russian river Moskva. It is a short-range supersonic cruise missile. The missile has three variants: land based, naval based and air and submarine based. BrahMos was first test-fired in 2001 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. It has an operational range between 290 and 300 kms.

4. Nirbhay:

Nirbhay is an all-weather, low-cost, long-range cruise missile capable of carrying conventional and nuclear war heads. The missile has a range of more than 1000 km, weighs about 1500 kg and has a length of 6 metres. The missile is powered by a solid rocket booster for take off which is developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL). Upon reaching the required velocity and height, Turbofan engine in the missile takes over for further propulsion.

5. Nag:

Nag missile is a fire and forget anti-tank missile. It is one of the five missile systems developed by DRDO under Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. It was first launched in 1988.

6. Dhanush:

Dhanush, a manoeuvring missile is a naval variant of Prithvi-II, and can carry a nuclear payload of 500 kg. The missile can hit both land and sea-based targets under 350 km range. It has already been inducted in the armed forces.

7. Prahaar:
