DGCA Bharat Bhushan sacked

New Delhi:The Civil Aviation minister Ajit Singh has sacked the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) E.K. Bharat Bhushan. In a sudden move on Tuesday evening around 4 pm, the civil aviation regulator Bharat Bhushan was ordered to leave the office of the DGCA and assume his duty as additional secreatary. He was  holding additional charge as DGCA.

P.N. Sukul, joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry has been given the additional charge of DGCA.

According to sources, Bhushan immediately left for the ministry and assumed his duty as additional secretary.

The reasons for sacking the DGCA by the minister Ajit Singh are not immediately known but there have been indications for quite some time that neither the minister, nor the civil aviation secretary Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi were happy with him.

Bharat Bhushan had gone for holy Amarnath Yatra to seek divine blessings and had returned on Monday only. Ironically, he has been dismissed just six days after his tenure was extended till December 2012.

 Zaidi has gone to France to attend a European seminar. According to sources, the decision to sack Bharat Bhushan as DGCA was taken by the minister himself.

According to sources, P.N. Sukul is likely to go to ICAO as India’s representative and the present representative at ICAO, Arun Mishra will come back and he could be appointed as next DGCA.

Some more changes in the ministry are also likely to take place soon. According to sources, the present CMD of the government owned Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd., Anil Srivastava is soon to be replaced by another joint secretary in the ministry G. Ashok Kumar. Srivastava is likely to become joint secretary in the ministry.
