India successfully test fires BrahMos cruise missile

Life extension validity proved once again

New Delhi: India on Monday successfully test fired supersonic cruise missile BrahMos with an extended life off the Odisha coast. The test fire was conducted in the rough ‘sea 7’ conditions proving it to be the best all weather effective supersonic missle. This was the second such test of the missile. The first life extension validity test was successful conducted on 21 May 2018.

The missile was fired at 10.18 a.m. from a test range at Chandipur in Balasore district. This was a life extension test of the missile which achieved all parameters, said the DRDO. Life of the old missiles is extended after every 10 years which makes the missile even cheaper for the users. In life extension process, certain consumable parts are replaced.

Testing the missile in rough weather condition ensured the efficacy and longevity of the weapon system. Different versions of the matchless Mach 3 supersonic missile are inducted in the arsenals of the Indian armed forces. The missile can accurately hit a target at 300 kilo meters and its range is being extended to 400 kms.

With this, India has achieved another milestone in the defence sector, a DRDO official said.BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between India's DRDO and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NPO Mashinostroyenia of  Russia.
