Call for Aerospace manufacturing policy for India

New Delhi: Dr. R.K. Tyagi, former chairman HAL and mentor – director Defence Innovators and industry Association (DIIA) called for a further effective Aerospace manufacturing policy for India. While welcoming the recent policy on ‘Strategic Partnership’ announced by Shri Jaitly, the defence minister of India, he stated that allowing manufacturing of single – engine fighter aircraft and Helicopters under this category will lead to higher technological capabilities of Aerospace manufacturing sector. He was speaking on the occasion of national seminar organized by CII and Indian Air force jointly at New Delhi on 23rd may 2017 on the theme ‘MAKE in INDIA for Indian Air force.’

Dr. Tyagi was happy to note that already more than 150 Indian SME’s are now part of global supply chain. Aerospace and defence sector in India as a whole and SMEs in particular will do better as long term visibility on strategic defence projects is now in place. He also called upon Ministry of Defence to now start work on development of regional Civil Aircraft (MOD responsibility now as per allocation of business rules of GOI) to give boost to the PM’s vision of Make – in – India in Aerospace and defence sector.

It is estimated that in next 10 years, more than 900 – 1000 commercial jets will be inducted in Indian skies as India prepares to be 3rd largest aviation market of the World. It is a high time that India develops its own homegrown aircraft for use in civil and defence applications. Besides developing cutting edge technologies for India, it will also create a huge employment potential for Indian youth.
